The American Association of Retired Persons has released responses to its candidate questionnaire. View Tom’s response listed for the 31st District.
Tom’s responses indicate his concern for health, senior independence, energy costs, and cost effective programs. They demonstrate his knowledge of health care and energy. In Tom’s words:
Encouraging the elderly to be able to remain in their homes and in the community should be a long term care goal for many reasons. It is where people prefer to be and the morale issues of being separated from home and family can be avoided. Providing more options for home and community based services actually costs less, if properly administered. In fact the cost can be half of that for institutionalized care. Nursing home placement should be where the care needed is greatest…
I support leglislation that promotes affordable energy. In fact our high electricity costs are one of the impediments to growing our economy and certainly hurt the residential customer as well. There are several necessary components including greater efficiency in how much we use…
Funding of essential human services must be a top priority of the new administration. We must also work to provide them in the most cost effective way possible…
Likewise, funding of home and community based long term care services, is both the preferred type by residents and the most cost effective. I would push for more programs that give patients the most control over their daily lives and the treatment they need to receive.
